Hey!

AGF is in an interesting situation. After being promoted to the "Superliga" last year, we are now in 5th place (of 12) in the league, with 42 points. Four rounds left for us. There's a bunch of teams with 35-39 points and who have played one match less, so it's a close battle. The interesting bit is that with the current situation, 5th place will probably be enough for Europa League qualification. So if we manage to finish 5th, we will play international games for the first time since an unsuccessful Toto Cup venture in 2001. Before that, I think our last international game was in 1997. So these could be new days in Århus. However, see if we don't mess it up during the last rounds.....

Yesterday's results:

AGF - Lyngby (11th) 2-1
FC Nordsjælland (2nd) - FC København (1st) 1-0

Now, after nearly four years of complete dominance, FCK is only 3 points ahead in 1st place with four rounds to go.

1    FC København            29    18    7    4    50-21    61
2    FC Nordsjælland         29    18    4    7    43-22    58
3    FC Midtjylland            28    14    6    8    43-36    48
4    AC Horsens               28    13    6    9    42-34    45
5    AGF                            29    10    12    7    38-33    42
6    Silkeborg                    28    10    9    9    44-39    39
7    SønderjyskE               28    10    8    10    39-42    38
8    AaB                            28    9    8    11    36-39    35
9    Brøndby IF                 28    8    9    11    31-36    33
10    OB                            28    7    7    14    39-46    28

11    Lyngby                    29    6    4    19    28-52    22
12    HB Køge                  28    4    6    18    28-61    18
But we can't be quite sure.

16. Vecsési FC 25 3 7 15 18–42 –24  15

As can be seen, Kazincbarcika is in trouble. The team doesn't have much money, the players would form a mid-level team in this division, but rumours say that there's not too much motivation. The fate of the team depends on money, and there's not much of it in our region. Soon the Western and Eastern division will be united, and the team will sooner or later drop to third level (even if the farm teams of first division teams get eliminated from second division). Let's hope it won't happen this year.

About the battle on the top: Szolnok started to squander their lead, they lost 3 in a row without even scoring a goal, it seems they won't have enough money for getting promoted. Békéscsaba is uncertain, but Eger FC announced to go for the title and the division change. Yes, the city (which was visited by some Stunts räcers as well) seems to have the financial background.

Boca vs Velez comming soon...

BonzaiJoe

After two victories:

HB Køge - AGF 1-3
AGF - Brøndby 5-1

we have a 6 point lead with 2 round left, which means we're very very close to playing international games again.

Here's hoping AGF gets to play Videoton FC, and win.

Did anyone else watch the end of the Premier League on Sunday? It's the craziest thing I've ever seen in football. I don't think I've ever seen a crowd of people so ecstatic as when Aguero scored that last goal in 4 minutes overtime. At least not in Europe :-)
But we can't be quite sure.

Round 27
Györ - Debrecen 1-2 (our GK was crappy, he made two huge mistakes - both ended with a goal)
Kecskemét - Videoton 0-2

Round 28
Videoton - Györ 2-1 >:( (last three rounds: Videoton 9 pts, ETO 0 pt)
Debrecen - Pécs 4-0

Hungarian championship, 2 rounds left:

1 Debrecen 68 pts (champion)
2 Videoton 60 pts
3 Györi ETO 57 pts
---------------------------------
4 Budapest Honvéd 43 pts

BonzaiJoe

So at least Orban FC didn't win the championship...
But we can't be quite sure.

Debrecen is one of the most stable Fidesz bases for ages, the team is strongly supported by the mayor of the city (Lajos Kósa, considerable person in Fidesz). They will build a new stadium partly from governmental budget...

Videoton: see earlier. They were too crappy to win the championship, even with the help of refrees.

Györi ETO: Györ was one of the bigger MSZP towns before 2006. The club is rather supported by industrial and financial business sponsors (and not politicans). Although Györ turned into orange lately, our mayor - even if he's a former olympic champion and the chairman of Hungarian Olympic Committee - doesn't really care about ETO. And he has quite a weak position in Fidesz compared to Kósa.

BonzaiJoe

AGF and FC Féhervar are in the draw together and could play each other in EL Q2.
But we can't be quite sure.

Round 29

Györi ETO - Pécs 3-0
Budapest Honvéd - Debrecen 0-3
Videoton - Lombard Pápa 2-0

Although ETO will finish on the podium, the 4th place will replace them in Europe League. Reason: they are disqualified from UEFA events in the next two seasons because of a player transfer affair.

Is Videoton the same as FC Fehervar? And what happened to MTK Budapest?

In the meantime, MTK advanced to the final of the Hungarian Cup, where they played against Debrecen. Debrecen didn't play their strongest team, and the situation became really hard for them. Debrecen won on penalties, but as they also won the championship, MTK got the "cup winner" place in Europe League.

Debrecen-MTK 3-3 (0-1, 3-3, 3-3) - 8-7 on penalties

Goals:
Könyves (45., 0-1)
Bouadla (51., 1-1)
Szakály (55., 2-1)
Ladányi (62., 2-2)
Zsidai (87., 2-3)
Szakály (89., 3-3)

Red card:
Nikolov (Debrecen), 60.

I found a video about the match about which people still talk sometimes in Kazincbarcika...

Playoff match to get promoted to top division between Budapest Honvéd and Kazincbarcikai Vegyész, second leg. First leg was 1-0 to Honvéd in Budapest, no away goal rule that time.

Summer of 1990, the biggest chance for a small team to do something special. Péter Lipcsei is in the home squad (later played in Porto, and iconic player of Ferencváros, Hungarian national team player many times), stadion sold out. My father attended the match.

You can see the outcome of the game here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9c5jiXbgYk&feature=related - Kazincbarcika in blue, Honvéd in white-red. Look at the first Honvéd goal, the commentator is constantly speaking about the terrible mistake of the referee - it's a huge offside, and the goal is allowed... My father told me about this goal many times... though the camera angle is not the best here, still it can be easily noticed...

By the way: are we interested in a Football ECH tipping game? (Something like the Football WCH tipping game two years ago.)
