Sure, if you are rich.
I have already booked tickets for our December Philippines holiday. Tickets would be around 300% more expensive if purchased immediately before the trip.

The organized trips have a limited number of travellers, so it's worthy to plan everything early.
There are some trips where they offer some discount if you make an early reservation.
There are some workplaces where you must fix your long holidays months before it (Ildi's).

Of course we will travel by bus, not by plane. And in early or mid June, so it is not that early to start to plan.
