It depends on conception: I rather think that it wanted to be a 6 speed gearbox car, and it was the easiest solution to perform it in a very old program. So I think it's more correct to say: you don't have to change gear between 1st and 2nd gear (the little figure of the gear lever also shows that there are 6 gears, unlike in the other cars).

Well, the true 288 GTO had a 5-speed transmission. If you look at the Ferrari shifting knob on the dashboard, you'll see one of the positions stands for reverse. Moreover, it is possible to have a 6-speed car in Stunts - in fact, I even did one... :)

I actually managed to keep PG there... The problem was that my way was slower than losing PG and got me 18 seconds penalty time :)

Let's say it is "almost" possible... :)

Final lap done... ;)

Well, with Firefox I can use the "Quote" button directly from the posts, but not the "Insert Quote" links available while I'm editing the messages. It started a couple days ago too as it seems...

Sorry Mark, but this one looks horrible... :D

But works fine in-track anyway, at least for Indy  :)

Don't worry...

I can see the fairness of your idea, but I think the leading time bonus is already so big (of course depending a lot on the track) that it wouldn't be good to have one pipsqueak with a 1 second advantage over all the rest.

Oh yes, you're correct. I hadn't seen the issue from that perspective...

Hi Argammon, welcome back! Do stay calm and laugh benignly :) CTG is not behaving very badly compared to what we know he is capable of. If he says you are Mark or Ayrton, he does not mean it! He is making an absurd insult which he knows is absurd, and there by becomes a sort of joke. That is one of his ways to try and be friendly, and I have definitely seen worse ways.

Definitely... Sometimes I even consider start taking as praise when peple call me Alain!  ;D

It's just that PG still looks like a problem. So this month, the indy is superior to all the other cars as it is the only car to reach PG. And it can do so in 99% of all tracks...

I agree to that. Unlike the other PG cars, with Indy it's possible to find a PG way in almost every track (just think of Kalpen's CTRACK-B...). Unfortunately I can't see for now a viable solution that does not involve banning Indy use someway at certain races...

I have another question... maybe it's too late to ask, but anyway suppose I download the track as soon as it's released and send a very early time. Six hours later, BJ replies with a killer lap and keeps the lead to the end. I will get the full half-second bonus then? Or maybe we could have a thresold for bonus time - say, 18 or 24 hours?

We'll know it next Monday, about 24 hours after the deadline confirmed for the 7th January 2008 at 23:59:59! Stay with us!  ;)

Uh, Mark, I think there was a bit of confusion here - Sunday is 6th January, noth 7th...

Thanks for the input Mark!

1. and 3.: Done... ;)

2.: Pretty nice! One funny thing to be noticed is that, at very high speeds (above ~210mph), Speedgate sometimes loses a bit of speed when landing from a bump, in a Countach-ish way (obviously and thankfully, the effect is much milder, though...). That caused me trouble during the speed runs.

Three questions to Mark about his creation and its Wiki article:

1. It is a fact that the official data about Speedgate understimates its acceleration (0-60) by a factor of about 50%.. :) I've added the acceleration I measured to the infobox, but haven't overwritten your text yet - is it fine to do it, or you intend to surprise people when they get to test the car? ;)

2. What kind of stunt is needed to get Speedgate to 245mph? I've raced a pretty fast track with lots of jumps and only reached, with quite a bit of effort, 227mph...

3. If you could choose a default colour for Speedgate other than P962's blue from the available ones, which would you pick? :)

Nice job, CTG; this track has fluency and rhythm, and never feels like lasting for almost three minutes...  ;)

And, of course, welcome Ayrton! :)

After wrestling a bit with wiki markup (available documentation at Wikipedia and MediaWiki is quite confusing...), I managed to write a half-decent template. Look at Recent Changes and see how you like it  ;)
