It is said that in Brazil there are more people playing FutSal than real football, I don't know if it's true.

The quote feels a bit bold, but it's true in metropolitan centers Futsal is at least on par with "field" Footbal (as we would call the normal game in opposition to Futsal) due to the simpler logistics (space, number of players, etc.), specially for casual games or among kids.

Chat - Misc / Re: Everything about computers
March 03, 2008, 01:02:34 AM
I forgot to tell you I finally, *again*, exchanged my computer last month - the first new PC I mentioned in July was eventually returned due to the shop attempting to scam me. It's still a C2D, mid-to-high end box that I don't plan exchanging again for a very long time. Anyway, most interesting is that this week I finally got a go with Linux on the new machine. In fact I've been wanting to try it for a long time, even more I started operating with Linux systems at University, but never really went for it due to slow downloading speeds and lack of an adequate partition either on my old Athlon or in the home's #2 PC. But then I got the chance to borrow a disk... The distro is Fedora Core 8, which I'm sort of used to from the University. It''s not the most user-friendly stuff ever, sure, and it took a while until I figured out how to update and install packages without having daily 300MB updates, but as of now I'm positively impressed, and starting to consider (other than high-end gaming, Office compatibility, and, until I reformat the NTFS partitions at least, DVD recording)full-time migration. It's pretty damn good... 8)

Futsal = FIFA-sanctioned indoor football, with 5 players on each team.

Very unpredictable results for a predictably interesting race... I'm extremely pleased with myself for suceeding to pull off a nice GTO race -  I do have it as a personal favourite car :) And unrelinquishable MOR for Zweitgelt, a very smart lap which not only hints at strong potential but has a very high chance of putting my intentions of reaching 5th place overall at bay. Congratulations!

I like this kind of test...

DUPLODE'S SCORE

Your scored -3 on Moral Order and 3 on Moral Rules.

The following categories best match your score (multiple responses are possible):

   1. System: Socialism
   2. Ideology: Social Democratism
   3. Party: No match.
   4. Presidents: Jimmy Carter
   5. 04' Election: David Cobb
   6. 08' Election: Barack Obama

Of the 422,633 respondents (2,324 on Facebook):

   1. 9% are close to you.
   2. 61% are more conservative.
   3. 14% are more liberal.
   4. 7% are more socialist.
   5. 6% are more authoritarian.

Overall, moderate left (similar to Zak, just a bit more edgy... :) ) It has not changed much since I did a similar test a few years ago. The comparison between countries is interesting as well - too bad they made a vertical perspective 3D graph with such dark shades, the columns just don't give a clear notion of their heights...

Bye bye Ron! It seems McLaren Mercedes ceased Ron Dennis contract. Still to see who's coming.

The link says: Mercedes fired Ron Dennis from McLaren. It might as well read as "Mercedes fired McLaren from McLaren"... The transition to a full manufacturer team won't last much longer now, within maybe five years McLaren's name will be just history  :(

It's because Hungary would probably be very happy to see the Hungarian speaking regions located in Romania, Slovakia and Serbia reaching a status similar to Kosovo, and the neighboring countries dont really want this to happen

Well, so my supposition was right. Though a rather obvious point, it's really stupefying how many, at times very-very distant, countries are led to polarized view about Kosovo due to delicate "internal" issues causing fear of, or desire for, a precedent.

There are different kind of countries against Kosovo's independance :
- pro-serbia countries like Russia who were also against Macedonia, Slovenia, Croatia, ... independance some years ago
- ex-USSR countries due to Russia's influence still present (Kazakhstan, Belarus, ...).
- countries that fear that their independentists factions would like to do the same. Examples : Spain, South Africa, Mexico, Ukraine, Bolivia, India, ...
- pure communist countries, always against any kind of freedom (China, Vietnam, ...)
- countries that fear Serbia's anger due to their proximity (Bosnia-Herzegovina mainly, maybe that's the same for Romania)
- others, which are un-explainable to me, like Argentina, Brazil or New-Zealand, ...

It just depends on your ethical viewpoint...
Generally, there are two conflicting moral points:

1. Kosovo deserves independence and a vast majority of Kosovars want it
2. Kosovo independence is a really bad idea for the region and for the world in general

Spot on... despite all reasons we can surely argue for Kosovo's case, a sudden unilateral declaration right in this geopolitical context (Mr. Putin on his neo-soviet fumes, Montenegro having just split from Serbia, etc.) is quite risky business. Krys commented on Brazil's position; it is not one of straightforward opposition aimed at Kosovo's plans, but rather one of diaspproval of unilateral moves from either part - a position shared by a number of countries.

Drifting to a related topic, the current state of affairs at Kosovo, there's a very relevant observation. Take a look at this:

Map of Kosovo's current diplomatic status

Notice how Hungary intends to recognise Kosovo, in opposition to Slovakia and Romania. That's quite interesting in the context of the "Greater Hungary" debates around here.

Taylor's Revenge! Awful injury for Croatian (Brazilian) Eduardo da Silva. He won't be at Euro 2008, and some pesimistic experts say he might not be able to play football again.

Here you can see a pic of the injury.

Damn, that was very depressing  :( It's scary how it seems spetacular leg fractures became more common in world-class footbal in those last three or so years - Cissé twice, Alan Smith, to a lesser extent Totti and now Eduardo... If anything, at least those recent cases seem to indicate prognostics are not necessarily "fatal" with current medicine advances - and BTW, latest estimates from Arsenal about Eduardo are ~9 months time for full recovery.

Zak: Bad publicity is better than no publicity  ;D

Anyway, I would like to call your attention for a follow up on the articles about car files and parameters, aimed as an attempt to detail further the physical basis of the parameters based on "experimental" input. Unlike the rather descriptive Car Parameters, this one goes more into an analytical direction. It is quite open-ended as well, so if you can think of a theme for a new section about some uncovered mechanics or bug rationalization just add a new sub-header at section 3 and start it up!  :) Also, I wonder if any of you (and particuarly Krys, who has that F1 car as a side-project) has better insight on how the "mechanics" of Power Gear work - it's sure damn confusing, to say the least... Here is the link to Car model physics

Even though I never really cared that much for Indy/IRL/CART/ChampCar/etc. that much (damn the yellow flags!), I suppose it's good news they will have another shot at an unified, strong open-wheeler championship.
