Some ice hockey :)

Austrian Top League

Alba Volán improved last season's performance by a lot. I guess if there hadn't been for the lot of injuries and suspensions (fvck off Austrian Ice Hockey Federation), we would have reached the playoffs.

NHL Regular Season

Pittsburgh Penguins had have serious trouble some weeks ago, drifting away from playoff spots more and more. Now with the new trainer, they are on fire, 7-1-1 in their last nine games. Because of the good shape of the rivals, they are still not in playoff spot, but they are very very close to it now. Great 5 away victories in a row!

Standings East

Hungarian-Romanian MOL League

The two best Romanian (Transylvanian, to be right, so they are Hungarians in real, too) teams played in the final, because
-Alba Volán played with their very young B team because of the EBEL participaton
-Hungarian referees were using the European standards, while in Romania, home ice was a too big advantage
-Újpest lost their best players for the key semi finals due to injuries, they still had a chance to win, but couldn't
-best Hungarian players were playing abroad, all Romanians at home
-Romanian talented young generation has grown up, while the Hungarian top generation is still in junior (or lower) aged
-Hungarian teams take the Hungarian League more important, the Transylvanian ones the MOL League

Final Results

1 HC Csikszereda (HC Miercurea Ciuc)
2 SC Csikszereda (SC Miercurea Ciuc)
3 Újpesti TE
4 Budapest Stars
5 Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák
6 Steaua Bucuresti
7 Ferencvárosi TC
8 Progym Gyergyószentmiklós (Gheorgheni)
9 Miskolci Jegesmedvék
10 Alba Volán II

Hungarian League

for 5th-7th place, Miskolc, Ferencváros and Alba II playing.
Semi Finals: Alba is leading 2-0 against Dunaújváros, and so does Újpest against Stars.

Olympic Qualification

Hungary-Latvia 3-7 - 3-5 2 minutes before end, really good match, really good play of Hungary, good result
Hungary-Italy 1-4 - deconcentrated, tired Hungarian team against a physically stronger, but generally a side of the same strength as Hungary, disappointing match
Hungary-Ukraine 3-3, Ukraine won with penalty shots, unlucky match, good play, we should have won

We played the weakest on the easiest match, that cost too much.

Qualified: LAT, GER, NOR.

Male handball, EHF Champions League, quarter-finals: that's what I call "fair" and "random" draw... >:(

Ciudad Real (ESP, title holder) – MKB Veszprém (HUN)
SG Flensburg-Handgewitt (GER)–HSV Hamburg (GER)
Csehovszki Medvegyi (RUS)–Rhein-Neckar Löwen (GER)
CO Zagreb (CRO)–THW Kiel (GER)

Tragedy in Hungarian sport - again... :-\

Last night Gábor Ocskay, maybe the best Hungarian ice hockey player, also member of Alba Volán died in heart attack. He was 34 years old. Rest in peace!

Hungarian ice hockey team is playing without Ocskay Gábor in the WCH. Still, they played very well so far. They lost to Slovakia 3-4 with a Slovak goal 13 seconds from the end. I guess we would have deserved 1, 2 or 3 points, there was no real difference between the teams in that game. Canada demolished us 0-9 then. Yesterday, we played against WRL-9th Belarussian team another very even game. If we had capitalized on our scoring chances with a better rate, we really would have won the game. 1-1 until the 54th minute, 1-3 in the end with an empty net BLR goal, another bittersweat loss. We will have to fight to avoid relegation. With the cheater Germans gave up their game to cheater French (to help them avoiding deserved relegation), knowing that GER will host WCH 2010, they can't get relegated, only 1 team can survive from the 4 of the teams of relegation round. Very sad. Also a big f*ck off on the LAT-SWE game (3-2, OT).

Something happier:

NHL, Eastern Conference Quarter Finals:
Pittsburgh Penguins (4th seed) - Philadelphia Cryers (5th) 4-2 (4-1, 3-2 OT, 3-6, 3-1, 0-3, 5-3)  ;D

In The Semi Finals:
Washington Capitals (2nd seed) - Pittsburgh Penguins (4th)  :o

penguins are an overdrafted shit (fashion team), but they are just weak without Crosby and Malkin, while FLYERS is a REAL TEAM! On the other hand, this 4-2 is quite far from the promised 4-0... :P

Penguins are in trouble! Lost the first two games in Washington! F-ck off!!! We were close (2-3, 3-4). Ovechkin is really on fire, the second and third line of the Pens should really give more! Crosby is not enough! Now 2 home games are to come. We really have to win them both.

Hungary is relegated from elite group of ice hockey. We lost all of our games. We played a great game against Slovakia and Belarus, had no chance against Canada, was tired but did all we could against Germany, lost because of the cheater referees against Denmark (our top division-1 level team is not strong enough to resist this, check the penalty minutes summary, it underlines my words), and played a really bad game against Austria. I hope we'll be back in 5 years, when our young generation grows up. And one thing: Palkovics was so impotent without Ocskay... :(

The WCH has come to the quarter finals. They are (with my tips):

Canada-Latvia 7-1
Russia-Belarus 4-2
Finland-USA 3-2
Sweden-Czech Rep. 4-3 OT

Canada has the widest range of players to select from their NHL stars, Russia almost the same. Czech Rep. and Finland managed to use a good percent of their NHL stars, they are with a really good team. Sweden's golden generation is getting old, misses WCHs (Sundin, Forsberg, Alfredsson, Naeslund, Lidström), the younger stars are almost all alive in the NHL playoffs (most of them in Detroit, Vancouver: Zetterberg, Franzén, H. Sedin, D. Sedin, Kronwall, Öhlund, Lundqvist), so they really miss they key players. But they have a strong enough team to be the fifth medal hope team. The others has no chance in my opinion.

Sweden has a new star, playing in the WCH, called Linus Omark (22 years old). The small center can do miraculous things in the ice, really worthy to watch these videos:

it doesn't embeds itself, but this one is the best of the 3 IMO

My tips:

Canada-Latvia 6-2
Russia-Belarus 6-3
Finland-USA 2-3 OT (because USA is dirty & lucky, SOG 43-30)
Sweden-Czech Republic 5-4

Akoss: have you ever drawn up a list of all the times Hungary have been cheated by the referees compared to the times they have been helped by the referees - counting all kinds of sports?

I think you will find there is a worldwide referee conspiracy against the nation of Hungary, no matter who they are playing!
But we can't be quite sure.

Not a good aspect. It's not a conspiracy versus Hungary - you just have to see that smaller countries with less active lobby and low level sport diplomacy get less help from refrees. On the other hand many nations hate Hungarians so it's quite easy to pick a refree from an "enemy"...

Just for Akoss Poo - remember what happened last year. Now Caps will kill pens with H5N1... ;D :P

Jacob, did you watch the match (DEN-HUN)? If you didn't, then have you at least seen the penalty minutes statistics! Before saying anything, you should check that! I only complained about 1 matches out of 6, is it such a great rate? If you watched the match, you could see that what in the Hungarian side was a call, on the Danish side, the whistle remained silent. Denmark is the better team, and if helped by the referees, the result can turn only into one way - Danish win, just like the zebras want.

Penguins won Game 3, series 1-2, next match in the Igloo, too.

It was so close... :-\

Female handball, European Champions League, final:

Viborg HK - Györi Audi ETO KC 24-26
Györi Audi ETO KC - Viborg HK 23-26

A single goal... well, typical. But! Somebody was missing from these two matches. Guess who: Anita Görbicz, the very best player of ETO. She suffered a very stupid knee injury few days before the first match (has to leave out few months). Unfortunately she's irreplaceble, we don't have quality substitutions for every positions. And even without her only a single goal was missing to win the cup... DAMN IT!

At least they won the championship (few rounds before the end of the competition) and the Hungarian cup. Cold comfort...

6 European cup finals in the last 10 years, all of them lost - 3 of them versus Viborg:

1999, EHF Cup: Viborg HK - Györi Graboplast ETO 21-24, 28-21
2002, EHF Cup: Ikast Bording EH - Györi Graboplast ETO 25-30, 36-23
2004, EHF Cup: Viborg HK - Györi Graboplast ETO 27-27, 37-21
2005, EHF Cup: Cornexi Alcoa - Györi ETO KC 21-27, 28-19 (the most shameful ever, versus another Hungarian team - a weak one...)
2006, Cup Winners' Cup: ZRK Buducnost - Györi Audi ETO KC 25-25, 26-23
2009, Champions' League: Viborg HK - Györi Audi ETO KC 24-26, 26-23

BonzaiJoe

It's a pity... I would have been okay with you winning :-) Who cares about female handball and especially teams outside Århus?  ;D
But we can't be quite sure.
