Luckily, this bike is a work horse. It's quite slow (internal hub with 3 gears), heavy (steel), but needs only minor maintenance.

It does sound sturdy! I kept having to replace the v-brake pads, but I suppose city cycling at rush our it more start-and-stop. Anyway, they've lasted far longer this year, since I've been working from home

Yeah, it's a cheap (~250 EUR), but durable basic city bike from a classic Hungarian manufacturer (Csepel). Less useless extra parts, less trobule.

However, it has limited abilities. Shimano Nexus 3 hub provides quite a narrow gear ratio range (186%). It's not enough if you want to climb a mountain, and you cannot reach a really high top speed (my record is a poor 51.7 km/h). By having rigid steel fork and 1.5" wide tyres, it's better not to leave asphalt/tarmac road with this bike. But still, I like to ride it.

About home office and biking: it has an opposite effect on my biking habits. Without COVID-19, my yearly performance would be somewhere around 3000 km, because of having less time to make trips in the morning/evening.

2021 will be different, even if the virus won't be stopped. I don't want to brake my limits again, or at least not by hunting monthly/yearly records like a maniac (e.g. 825 km in August was simply too much for my body). This year it became an addiction (numbers, numbers, NUMBERS...), and I have to admit, the last 500 km was almost pure pain.

Average distance on bike days: 28.01 km
Average distance per day (calculated with 0 km for 16-31th December): 6.81 km

1 or 2 days on bike still possible, though not sure.

379 km hiking, 4900 m swimming and 17 table tennis matches in addition. These are less than 2015-2019 average. I didn't go running or playing football this year.

Thanks! Yes, temperature is also an influencing factor, along with day length of course. Here (48o15'N, 20o38'E, in a valley between hills and mountains, in an industrial zone) winters can be cold, foggy, snowy/freezing and dark, which makes days unsuitable for cycling (for example today I arrived at home from work at 5:20 p.m., sunset around 3:40 p.m., weather at arrival: 3 degrees, drizzle and fog). On the other hand, summers can be quite hot here (sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms and consequently way too humid conditions), which might also affect summer performance (along with my summer holiday habits: we prefer to go in June where the weather is less warm but the daylight times are longer). Even without the lack of bike this year there would have been a summer secondary minimum in the figure. Best period for cycling: April-May and August-September, here at least.

Countries which I've flown over don't count, but I'm also noting them. I don't have the cathegory 'seen from outsite'.

Sputnik V with a third, booster dose of Western vaccine will make me available to visit a lot of countries, so I will try to collect more 'medals' this year. However, no new country is planned at the moment. Moreover, I only plan the third shot of vaccine around April/May since I had a coronavirus infection in late October-early November 2021. I do not have a certificate of recovery since I did not have a positive PCR test, only a positive rapid test, which is not eligible for that.

Perhaps less glorious based on the number of 'medals', but you have visited significantly more countries. With that system, my table could include 25 countries if airport transits qualify for the 'bronze'. However, I think it should be given only for road/rail transit, where you see a bit more of the land... So I would stop at 23 (including NOR, because I visited it before moving here).

The plans of my boss for business trips in 2022 include Saudi Arabia (probability: 90%) and the USA (70%). Not really the countries I wanted to add to my list... Although in the USA we would go to San Francisco, where I could beat not only my personal but also Akoss Poo's west longitude record. And there is also some chance (25%) for a private trip to Iceland.

Anyway, my main goal nowadays is not to visit as many countries as possible, but rather to spend more time in places I like. The few parts of the world I am still really curious about are in NE Europe (Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and in South America (want to see more from Argentina, as well as Chile and Uruguay). And I would not refuse a trip to Namibia, but that's rather because its perfect conditions for astronomical observations.

You guys travel quite a lot.
I don't travel often, most holidays i spent in my own country or a close neighbor. But i have done a few long distance trips.
In 1988 from the Netherlands to USA (Huston, TX and stayed somewhere in Louisiana).
in 1996 form the Netherlands to Colombia (first Bogota then a little town called Yopal and a trip to Cartagena.)
Last long trip was in 2008 from the Netherlands to China. (don't want to specify, never going back)

Oh, thanks. Now would be time to meet once when there is no fear of COVID. It is a better coin collection when the coins are at hand instead of lying in a Norwegian wallet/drawer etc.

Interesting facts:
- I closed the "Live beside Stunts" section by mistake, I could not see the new posts in this section in the past weeks.
- I also wasn't aware of JTK and KHR having grown up in Namibia.
- I almost met Usrin in October last year, I missed the Omani and Argentinian coins just because of fear of COVID (emergence of suspicious symptoms).

I travelled less in the past 2-3 years.

Reasons:
- COVID (fear of the disease, non-suitable Sputnik vaccine, lack of an EU certificate of recovering from COVID because there was no PCR test conducted, only a rapid test)
- mechanical state of our previous car
- my old boss died, no more trips to USA (the visited company has also gone bankrupt since then, reason: COVID) and to Transylvania since then (now we rather write articles instead of attending conferences)
- my currect boss did not let me go on a holiday last year (I could take most of my holidays only in December)

Most of these problems are solved. I still don't take the booster vaccine, but there are no travel restrictions in many target areas: Slovakia, Slovenia, Transylvania. We bought a newer car last autumn. My boss admitted that it was a mistake that he did not let me go on holiday.

But in the meantime:
- I got older
- a war has broken out in a neighbouring country
- we want to buy a house, even the first steps take a lot of time.
